Spices shape the soul of every dish, but few blends capture the essence of nature quite like the new collaboration between Urban Hearth and Curio Spice Co. This small batch, short run, hand foraged spice blend, crafted by Chef Erin Miller, offers a fresh, authentic taste that brings wild flavors straight to your kitchen. Available now in our online shop, this blend invites you to explore the rich, earthy notes of ingredients gathered by hand from local New England landscapes.
The Collaboration Behind the Blend
Urban Hearth and our neighbors at Curio Spice Co both share a passion for quality and authenticity. Urban Hearth is known for our dedication to seasonal, locally inspired cuisine, while Curio Spice Co specializes in crafting small-batch, thoughtfully sourced spice blends. Together, we have created a product that reflects our shared values and culinary expertise.
Unlike conventional spices sourced from large-scale farms or factories, hand foraged spices come directly from nature’s untouched corners. Hand foraging supports sustainable practices. By harvesting both native and invasive wild ingredients responsibly, it encourages biodiversity, discourages invasiveness and respects the environment. This means every pinch of the blend carries not only exceptional taste but also a story of care and connection to the land.
Ingredients That Tell a Story
The spice blend features hand foraged native and invasive species:
Wild Autumn Olive an invasive species of shrub with bright red, tart berries
Wild Sumac a native tree offering a tangy, lemony note and full of vitamin C
Wild Mushrooms hand foraged and dried native mushrooms provide an earthy, umami note
Seaweed foraged straight from New England's abundant beaches adds a vegetal and briny pop
Wild Juniper contributes an earthy, piney fragrance that rounds out the blend
These ingredients reflect the local environment where they were gathered, giving the blend a sense of place and seasonality.

How to Use the Forager’s Spice Blend
This versatile blend works well in many recipes. Here are some ideas to get started:
Roasted Vegetables: Toss your favorite root vegetables with olive oil and a generous sprinkle of the blend before roasting. The spices enhance natural sweetness and add complexity. Especially good with mushrooms.
Grilled Meats: Rub the blend onto chicken, beef, or lamb for a flavorful crust that seals in juices.
Soups and Stews: Stir a spoonful into broths to deepen the flavor and add herbal notes.
Salad Dressings: Mix with olive oil and lemon juice for a bright, aromatic dressing.
The blend’s balance of flavors makes it easy to experiment and discover new favorites.
Purchase with a Purpose
At Urban Hearth we believe that good, nutritious food should be accessible to everyone in our community. So we're proud to announce that $1 of each purchase of our Forager's Blend will be given to our friends at Community Cooks, a local non profit who identify human service agencies in need of food support for their clients, recruit and connect volunteers to meet those needs, and coordinate 90+ cooking teams, each providing a monthly meal to an assigned local partner agency. We encourage all purchasers to consider a larger donation to their cause, which you can learn about on their donation page.
There are only 100 jars of this small batch spice blend. Visit our online shop to order before they are all claimed.
